HTC Continues Its Hardware Dominion in the Cell Phone Market

The recent lineup of HTC cell phones has been redefining mobile hardware in terms of build quality and functionality. HTC’s devices have come a long way in a very short period of time; casting out the sometimes monstrously thick silhouettes and standard geometries of past cell phones for svelte and innovative designs. While it may not necessarily be alone among manufacturers upping the ante - Motorola comes to mind - the icing on the cake really is the functionality of HTC sense, their proprietary interface. It works - and it won my heart when it accommodated a relatively painless interaction with a Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone in the HTC HD2.

It seems as though there is still more HTC goodness on the horizon in the form of the HTC Incredible, which looks like it will be making all other Verizon cell phones jealous in the not so distant future. The international market will soon be teeming with prospects just begging to be released in the US such as the HTC HD Mini and HTC Legend; not to mention the still semi-mythical HTC Supersonic.

Altogether, it’s shaping up to be an exciting year in wireless - and although in some ways HTC may be leading the charge there will undoubtedly be some healthy competition from manufacturers across the board; I’m thinking Sony Ericson’s Xperia X10 will even be a contender. Regardless, it seems as mobile technological innovations start to outpace carrier contract lengths and market saturation, these cell phones ultimately might not only revolutionize the hardware aspect of wireless, but maybe even the carrier side as well.
